The Xhibit took place on August 18th, the Chinese Ghost Festival, at SYSTEM Shanghai—one of China’s largest techno clubs with a capacity of over 1,000. This one-day techno, art, and dance exhibition invites viewers to explore the pains of womanhood. Drawing inspiration from the Buddhist "Blood Bowl Hell,” a boiling period blood hell reserved for women, the show focuses on the mistreatment of marginalized female bodies across social, political, familial, and religious spheres.

Period blood, once condemned as the "unclean sin" of menstruation and childbirth, becomes the source of power, pain, and pleasure at The Xhibit. At the core of the show are two visceral blood pools that overlook the main stage, where attendees dance as if within a woman's womb on her most excruciating cramp day. Two 4-hour films portraying the stories of selected radical women's rights activists project into the centers of the pools, escalating in intensity as the show proceeds through the night.

The show cycles through the four emotional and physical stages of a gender uprising: Rising, Breaking, Screaming, and Exploding. These themes are portrayed through the intensifying moods of the music, videos, and modern dances. The dance performance is a three-part piece that explores a woman’s transformation from naivety to lunacy, driven by the inescapable consequences of simply existing. The piece also pays homage to the Bloody Brides Protest in China, in which women wore wedding dresses splattered with red stains to rally against domestic violence. Video art installations, sculptures, and ceramics created by young artists on the theme of womanhood are scattered throughout the venue. Through these artworks, The Xhibit invites viewers to fully immerse themselves in the unique narratives of womanhood.
